When Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church decided to have a new pipe organ made, they knew they would need to renovate to make the most of their new musical instrument. Acoustics were the driving force behind the sanctuary design. Articulated walls, along with sound diffusers and absorbers, began as acoustical requirements, but became the architectural features of the sanctuary.
